KIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

SEWING PROGRAM

Empowering women with a skill that will enable them to be small business owners.

In November 2022 we officially started the Kia Institute of Technology. Our vocational school began with a sewing program for women of all ages in need of an opportunity. We had 16 women successfully complete the program. We are currently hosting our second class of sewing students.

Why a vocational school? One of the largest issues in rural Tanzania is being dependent on rain for crops to grow and for vegetation for livestock to eat. When Tanzanians experience a drought, many families face starvation because farming is their only source of income and food.

In 2018 AFTN was made aware by local pastors in Tanzania the need to build a vocational center to educate students coming out of high school in a skill or trade. This learned skill would empower them to have a job and to earn an income aside from farming.

Plans for the future: The vocational school will expand to teach English and skills such as Construction Trades; i.e. Masonry (block building, beam construction), Plumbing (water/sewer lines, septic), Electrical Trades (residential/commercial wiring), Technology (computer skills, customer service, coding, tech support), Sewing, Auto & Aeronautical Mechanics, & Drone Operation.

Our desire is to make an impact on a large scale. We hope to improve the lives of Tanzanians by boosting the possibilities for economic growth with young people who have adequate training for the industries coming and developing in Tanzania. We believe these young people will be the catalyst for the change Tanzania is hoping for.
